Monsters of Amalur

I've been wanting to put up some video gameplay of the Kingdoms of Amalur video game that I've been playing. Not only do I think the visual aspect is impressive, but when you see how the visuals are put together with the motion of the characters and creatures...well, I think it's pretty darn neat (I'd hate to get too technical there). However, the problem with me able to capture video is compounded by a couple of factors. First, I'm not playing on my PC...and my Xbox isn't currently connected to my PC that would me to screen-capture the video as I'm playing. Therefore, in order to capture any video (or even pictures for that matter), I have to use my phone or video camera and take video of my TV...I know, pretty crappy. And so, in order to do that and actually take gameplay footage of me actually playing...I would need more than two hands...so that means I have to get someone else involved. Now it's not that I don't have able-bodied family members who would be more than capable of helping me out in this situation...just that I'm not ready to involve someone else in this endeavor quite yet.

So I decided to just take a few quick videos of the game myself (you'll quickly notice that my character is not moving around)...nothing two fancy...mostly just to try the whole process out. Not only is this my first time to edit a video, but also the first time to post something on YouTube...woohoo! So I'll also apologize for the semi-crappy videos...all that I can say is that they should get better over time. Well let's get on with the show. All of the videos I'm posting in this blog are short videos showing some of the monsters found in the game.

In this first VERY short video, the monster is called a sprite...basically it flies around, usually attacking with some elemental type of damage such as lightning, fire, or ice:

The next video shows a group of monsters called boggarts. These little creatures seem to be of the tribal nature...with the masks and all. At one point in the video you can see one of the boggarts chasing around a small floating light...and then finally catching the light and, from what I can tell, apparently eating it:

This next video isn't the best, but it still decently shows another one of the creatures of Amalur...the brownie. And no, these aren't little girls in brown outfits:

And then the last video I have is of one of the tougher creature-types in the game...the troll. These guys are wielding huge clubs...and aren't afraid to smash your body into pulp. You do your best to try to dash out of the way whenever you see one of those about to land on your head. Towards the end of the video a boggart also walks by in front of the troll. Try not to get the two confused...I know they look very similar:

Well that's it for now...definitely an interesting technological experience for me. I had fun with it and hope to delve into the video-posting aspect of this a lot more in the future. And I really want to show you more of those impressive visual effects in the game.

Happy gaming everyone!
